On Tjuvholmen in Oslo
The primary target group for the school program is students in grades 8–10 at the lower secondary school, but we also welcome students from upper secondary school.
Through an educational program and the use of interactive stations and tablets, the students will embark on an engaging journey through the center. Competitive elements with prizes will also enhance the engagement and learning experience.
The themes range from the sea as the future food source, technology and sustainable food production, to the socio-economic significance, career opportunities, and salmon as food. The educational program is tailored to the new curriculum and covers core elements in several subjects, such as science, social studies, food and health, work-life studies, and career guidance.
The educational and subject content is quality assured in collaboration with lower secondary school teachers and our partner NMBU. Additionally, the academic responsible at the center has an academic background in marine biology and aquaculture, as well as experience in research and environmental conservation.
The visit is free, lasts 90 minutes, and is adapted for up to 30 students. All students work in smaller groups to ensure a good academic outcome.
When signing up, an email with practical information and preparation details, such as dividing the students into groups, will be sent.
There will be a small tasting for each student, but it is not intended to replace lunch. We do not have a lunchroom. You can safely leave your bags inside the center.

The school program at The Salmon is particularly well-suited for lower secondary school students, and we have closely aligned it with the core elements of the new curriculum. Through collaboration in small groups and a focus on one central industry for Norway, students will be able to work interdisciplinary and cover several relevant core elements.
The students will go station by station. They will explore relevant challenges and opportunities related to the environment and sustainability, with a focus on food and health, the industry’s role in a social studies context, the various career options available within a large and growing industry, and the historical perspective. They will also learn about all the steps from roe to finished export product.
